Unfortunately the Bayreuth chorus isn't quite up to its usual high standard, and at the Grail Knights entrance in Act 1 scene 3 there is difference of tempo over the first two measures that, even if intentional, will surely raise some eyebrows. The minor flaws of this performance not withstanding, I cannot recommend this download enough/5(15).

Karl Muck () was chiefly regarded as a Wagner specialist, particularly for his conducting of Parsifal. All the recordings he made from the opera are gathered here. While the recorded balances are problematic in the Bayreuth Act 1 Transformation Music and Grail Scene, the sonics convey a vivid theatrical ambience.

The centrepiece of this collection of historical Wagner recordings is Karl Muck’s slightly abridged version of Act Three of Parsifal recorded with the Berlin State Opera Orchestra, the first attempt to give us a more or less complete presentation of any of the single Acts from one of Wagner’s music dramas. This would have been impossible in the days before electric recording, when even the.

It contains Muck's accounts of the Prelude to Act I and a sizeable amount of Act III, recorded with the chorus and orchestra of the Berlin State Opera, and of excerpts from Acts I and II, recorded with the chorus and orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival. The recordings, made in and , reflect the glow of a golden age in Wagner /5(14).

The finest vintages of source material were used for these transfers. The Hertz discs came from Hanover "Gramophone Concert Record" pressings, the Muck First Act Prelude and all of Act III were transferred from Victor "Z" pressings; and the Bayreuth Festival recordings came from a combination of U.S. Columbia "Viva-Tonal" and laminated, pre-EMI English Columbia copies, with the best sides.

Mike Ashman recommends Wagner. Parsifal Act III and excerpts from Acts I and II (CD) Karl Muck / Berlin State Opera and Bayreuth Festival Orchestras / Now best heard on Naxos. Because this is perhaps the nearest we can get, in excepts of reasonable length, to the conducting of which Wagner .

Daniel Barenboim: Complete Wagner Operas (34 CD) by Mark Berry. They are not, of course, ‘complete’ in an absolute sense, for the three earliest operas, Die Feen, Das Liebesverbot, and Rienzi are not present, but here are the complete Teldec recordings of Wagner’s operas and music dramas, as recorded by Daniel Barenboim. Knowing where to start with such an undertaking threatens to seem.
